Took a taxi home yesterday so SigOther’s birthday cake (green tea!) wouldn’t melt. This old Ford Escape with broken rear vents still delivered nice cold air ...

I’ve seen a similar solution more than a few times ... The mandated (then unmandated by our court system) Nissan NV200 has great airflow to the back, as does the occasional Highlander that comes along.

ive never seen anything like that in a taxi...
but over here taxis are pretty fancy (im told by americans)
ive never seen a ratty taxi here
(well.. i guess the taxi bus is sometimes pretty grim)
they’ll come pick you up from your home... but you have to share it with anyone else they have planned to pick up at the same time and sometimes that means lengthy stops as they get pensioners on and off the van... but its a fraction of the cost of a real taxi

That’s pretty bad. I’d have thought something like that would be a warranty repair for pretty much all cabs. I see the TLC wanted to increase the age limit to 7 years in 2015, but I can’t actually see if that was approved, though janky repairs like this would seem to argue against keeping older cabs on the road.

I’ve considered setting up a hose or something to go down the side of my car to where my dog sits. The center vents in my Mercedes don’t open anymore, vacuum issue with those pods, only the left and right dash vents work. Of course the center ones are the best at getting the rear seat cool. You have to take the dash off to get to them, but most people recommend doing all four in the dash if you do two.
